Technical Editor

ECORP Consulting, Inc. is seeking a technical editor. This position could be based in any of our California offices (Rocklin, Redlands, Santa Ana, San Diego, Chico).

Duties include:

  • proof-reading technical, scientific, and other company documents related to environmental compliance (e.g., biological assessments, cultural resources survey reports, CEQA/NEPA documents, and proposals, among others) to ensure consistency with ECORP’s Style Guide;
  • tracking changes using Microsoft Word to check and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format inconsistencies, tables of contents, bibliographies, consistencies between text and related graphics, and overall format and style;
  • where applicable, ensuring that documents meet government agency-specific formats (e.g., Caltrans, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers);
  • assisting in the implementation of ECORP’s Style Guide, which includes document review protocols, procedures, templates, and formats. Responsible for tracking staff questions and comments on the Style Guide and annual reviews of the Style Guide to determine if revisions are needed;
  • responsibility for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed on time and within budget; and
  • other duties, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will have the following required qualifications and experience:

    • a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or closely related field;
    • at least 2 years of technical editing experience;
    • a demonstrated ability to work well in a budget- and deadline-driven environment;
    • excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat);
    • superior oral and written communication skills;/li>
    • the ability to work well with technical staff and to interface with coworkers in a professional and ethical manner; and
    • must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work independently.
    • In addition, the following qualifications, characteristics, and experience are strongly preferred:

      • experience in one or more of the following fields: environmental regulatory compliance, biology, cultural resources, CEQA/NEPA, or a related field; and/or
      • experience working for environmental consulting or architectural/engineering firms.

      IMMEDIATE FIELD PALEONTOLOGISTS NEEDED – Temporary On-Call

      ECORP Consulting, Inc. is seeking motivated individuals in joining our team as on-call paleontologists for upcoming projects throughout California. As an on-call paleontologist, you will conduct paleontological monitoring of construction projects which may/will include: data collecting, interpretation of stratigraphic units, salvaging of fossils, preparation of daily monitoring logs, and other field tasks. The on-call paleontologist will work under the Principal Paleontologist and report directly to them.

      Qualifications

      • B.S. or B.A. degree in geology or paleontology and one year experience monitoring in the state or geologic province of the specific project
      • An associate degree and/or demonstrated experience showing ability to recognize fossils in a biostratigraphic context and recover vertebrate fossils in the field may be substituted for a degree
      • A.S. or A.A. in geology, paleontology, or biology and demonstrated two years experience collecting and salvaging fossil materials in the state or geologic province of the specific project
      • Enrollment in upper division classes pursuing a degree in the fields of geology or paleontology and two (2) years of monitoring experience in the state or geologic province of the specific project
      • Ability to identify vertebrate, invertebrate, plant, and trace fossils to Class or lower taxonomic level in the field is desirable
      • Ability to travel to various project sites for extended periods of time and work outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions
      • The ideal candidate for this position will have the following skills and experience:

        • • Bachelor’s Degree in ecology, botany or related field required. Master’s or PhD a plus.
        • • Minimum of 3 years related work or research experience. Consulting experience a plus.
        • • Excellent plant ID skills including keying plants with the Jepson Manual and communities with the Manual of California Vegetation.
        • • Experience with Central Valley vernal pool plant species.
        • • Experience with analysis of floristic/vegetation data and basic statistical methods.
        • • Strong organizational, time management, and technical writing skills.
        • • Familiarity with CDFW survey protocols a plus.
        • • Experience with GPS units/ArcGIS Collector a plus.
        • • Ability and desire to travel long distances to and from job sites that may require overnight stays
        • • Maintain a flexible schedule due to unforeseen or last-minute project needs.
        • • Conduct strenuous field work in inclement weather/on steep terrain is required.

        IMMEDIATE FIELD ARCHAEOLOGISTS NEEDED – Temporary On-Call

        ECORP Consulting, Inc. has an immediate need for field and monitoring archaeologists for projects in Southern California, largely in the counties of Imperial, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Riverside.

        Responsibilities depend upon the project and largely include construction monitoring, but may also include pedestrian survey, site mapping and recording, excavation, and other duties as assigned. Work durations range from a few days to four weeks, depending on the project, with the potential for full time work in the future.

        Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology or other closely related field, successful completion of an archaeological field school or field methods course at an accredited university in the United States, and at least 1 year of full-time professional experience.

        Wages are based on level of education, relevant experience, and quality of references. Bachelor’s Degree wage range is $24 to $27/hour. Master’s Degree in Anthropology and Registered Professional Archaeologists wage range starts at $30/hour. All positions include paid mileage between ECORP’s closest office and the project location and, when overnight stays are required, hotel and per diem. These are temporary non-benefited positions.

        Associate Environnmental Planner (Air Quality/Greenhouse Gas/Noise)

        ECORP Consulting, Inc. is searching for an Associate Environmental Planner to expand our Air Quality/Greenhouse Gas/Noise analysis practice throughout California. Duties may include: assisting with air quality and greenhouse gas emissions inventories and modeling, health risk assessments, noise modeling and field data collection, environmental impact analysis for California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and staff support to office personnel.

        Requirements:

        • Comfortable working in a team environment with multiple project deadlines.
        • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
        • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, Statistics, Atmospheric Science/Meteorology or related subjects
        • 2-5 years of experience preparing air quality, greenhouse gas, and/or noise impact analyses pursuant to CEQA/NEPA
        • Understanding of state and federal air quality and climate change environmental policy and regulation (CEQA, NEPA, SB 32, Clean Air Act).
        • Knowledge and understanding of air quality models (EMFAC, CalEEMod, OFFROAD), dispersion/photochemical models (AERMOD, HARP2, CMAx), and meteorological models (e.g., WRF) OR
        • Knowledge and understanding of noise models (e.g., SoundPLAN, Transportation Noise Model)

        Senior-level Archaeologist

        ECORP Consulting, Inc. is seeking a qualified, experienced, and dynamic senior-level archaeologist for our Northern and Southern California practices. This position may be located in any of our California offices.

        Staff or Senior CEQA/NEPA Planner

        ECORP is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, client-centered professional to fill a role of Staff or Senior CEQA/NEPA Planner. The position could be assigned to either the Redlands or Santa Ana offices. The team member will be responsible for conducting and overseeing impact analysis, report preparation, business development, and research related to CEQA/NEPA documentation and technical studies. Experience with CEQA-Plus compliance and/or Caltrans requirements and resource agency (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Regional Water Quality Control Board) permitting is a plus.         ECORP Consulting, Inc. is currently hiring for all levels of wildlife and fisheries biologists, botanists, and restoration ecologists (entry, mid-level, and senior) in all of our Southern California offices (Redlands, Santa Ana, and San Diego). Job duties include general field surveys for biological resources, sensitive species surveys, jurisdictional waters delineation and permitting, preparation of biological reports, sensitive species permitting, preparation and implementation of mitigation and restoration plans, and preparation of biological resources sections of CEQA and NEPA documents. Mid-level and senior analysts would also have appropriate business development responsibilities for that level. Education requirements include a bachelor’s degree in biology, wildlife management, fisheries, zoology, botany, restoration ecology, or a related field and 0-5 years of experience for an entry-level biologist, 5-7 years of experience for a mid-level biologist, and 7+ years of experience for a senior biologist. Applicable advanced degrees and/or USFWS/CDFG permits and MOUs may substitute for years of experience.
